The New York National Guard held their annual wildfire training Tuesday at Round Lake.
The drills featured the Army’s Special Operations Black Hawk helicopter. It hovered over the lake to scoop up nearly 700 gallons of water at a time, then released it back into the lake.
The goal is to teach aircrews how to fly with the weight of the water below the aircraft to extinguish wildfires.
The last time the New York National Guard responded to a wildfire was back in 2018.
