Niskayuna installing stop-arm school bus cameras
Another school district in the Capital Region is installing stop-arm cameras on buses.
The Niskayuna Central School District is partnering with Bus Patrol to install the AI-powered cameras on the buses. The cameras can take pictures of vehicles that illegally pass stopped buses and identify the license plates.
“We’ve heard from our community, our residents have talked about safety, particularly safety for our students for quite a long time,” said Niskayuna Police Chief Jordan Kochan. “And we’re very excited to be able to collaborate on this partnership with our school district to finally bring a further layer of safety to fruition for the Niskayuna school district.”
Around 50,000 cars passed stopped school busses in New York state each day, the district pointed out.
