A Malta man faces multiple charges including driving while ability impaired by drugs and aggravated vehicular assault after hitting a trooper and tow truck driver on I-87 Saturday, November 2 in the Town of Colonie according to State Police.
The trooper, seriously injured in the incident, is in stable condition at Albany Medical Center. The tow truck driver, who had more serious injuries than was previously reported by police, was treated and released, police said in an update Sunday.
Lussier’s Autobody Towing and Recovery identified the tow truck driver as one of their employees in a Facebook post on Saturday.
“Today, we were called by the New York State Police to tow a vehicle off of I-87 southbound in the Town of Colonie. Without releasing too many details, one of our operators was struck by a passing vehicle. Please keep him in your thoughts as he recovers,” the post said.
Police said Guerin has been convicted of a DWI in the last 10 years. He was arraigned in Colonie Town Court Sunday and is being held at Albany County Jail without bail.
