Open container leads to weapon, drug charges for Albany man

ALBANY – A 22-year-old Albany man is facing weapon and drug charges for allegedly having a loaded handgun and a quantity of narcotics on North Lake Avenue on Thursday.
At around 6:45 p.m., officers observed Jovonte Heard with an open container of alcohol while on the street. Police attempted to stop Heard for the open container when he ran from officers on foot. Heard was quickly apprehended and taken into custody.
Heard also had a loaded handgun, crack cocaine, fentanyl and oxycodone pills, according to police.
Heard was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, multiple counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest and possessing an alcoholic beverage in an open container.
He was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court and sent to the Albany County Jail.
