Opening statements begin in trial of man accused of killing hip-hop artist
Opening statements held in trial for man accused of murdering a rising hip-hop artist.
Opening statements began Tuesday afternoon in the trial of a man accused of killing an Albany hip-hop artist.
Tyshaun Purvis has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Dominique Eley. Purvis allegedly shot and killed Eley near the corner of North Pearl Street and Livingston Avenue in July 2022.
Eley was also a Black entrepreneur who created youth advocacy programs and gave back to the community.
Purvis is also charged with criminal possession of a loaded firearm, criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a narcotic drug.
Purvis has three previous felony convictions, according to the state inmate database and was on post-release supervision at the time of the death.
