Pair charged in Pittsfield for allegedly riding dirt bikes recklessly

Pittsfield Police have arrested two people for allegedly driving dirt bikes recklessly.

Chief Thomas Dawley was in the area of Tyler Street on Monday, March 10 at around 4:30 p.m., when he saw a blue dirt bike conducting wheelies in the roadway, police said. Dawley notified other officers on patrol.

Officers saw the dirt bike again at around 6:30 p.m. and tried to stop it. The dirt bike sped away, rode on the wrong side of the road, and went through stop signs, according to police.

Because of concerns of risk to bystanders, police canceled the pursuit.

Officers eventually found the dirt bike and operator on Robbins Avenue. While arresting the driver, they saw a second dirt bike traveling in the area, and also arrested that driver.

Police are reminding people that all dirt bikes being driven on the road need to be properly insured, registered and have safety equipment including headlights, brake lights and turn signals.
