Pittsfield mayor: No lifeguard on duty when 8-year-old girl drowned last year

There was no lifeguard on duty when Kristy Prakashkumar Patel, 8, drowned at Burbank Park Beach in Pittsfield, Mayor Linda Tyer told NewsChannel 13’s media partners at the Berkshire Eagle.
People on the beach attempted to revive Patel, the paper reported.
She was taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, where she died.
Based on the posted hours for lifeguards, one should have been there at the time, Tyer said.
This comes as there won’t be lifeguards on duty at the lake, this summer, the city said.
