Police: Deadly Schenectady shooting was likely murder-suicide attempt
Investigators think a tragic shooting in Schenectady on Thursday evening was a murder-suicide attempt.
Officers were called to an apartment on North End Drive around 7:15 p.m. For a fight. They heard two gunshots as they arrived.
A woman then walked out with injuries to her chest and arm.
A short time later, police found a man inside who shot himself in the head, investigators said. He died at the scene.
“At this time, we believe is that this was a domestic incident between a husband and wife and that he shot the female. She fled to safety as officers were coming up, and he then shot himself as officers were entering the apartment,” said Lt. Ryan. Macherone, with Schenectady Police.
The woman is now being treated at a hospital.
A dog was also found inside the apartment, police said. The dog is OK.
NewsChannel 13 is not identifying the shooting suspect in this case, to protect the identity of the victim.
