Police investigating assault in Albany early Sunday morning

Albany Police are investigating two assaults that happened early Sunday morning in the area of Grant Avenue and Hunter Avenue.

Officers responded around 2:40 a.m. for reports of an assault, which they discovered a 31-year-old male with a severe laceration to his neck. He was treated on scene and taken to Albany Medical Hospital which he was listed in stable condition.

Authorities say they were notified of a second victim of assault, a 19-year-old male, at Albany Medical Hospital about two hours after police arrived to the scene. They say he entered the emergency room with a laceration to his elbow.

Police say they learned there was a large gathering at a residence on Grant Avenue, which resulted in a fight. It was at that time when the suspect threw a glass bottle at the 31-year-old, causing him to sustain an injury on his neck.
