Police: Schenectady pair arrested after crashing into Guilderland police vehicle
Two people from Schenectady were arrested Monday after police said they crashed into a police vehicle in Guilderland and running away from officers.
The incident began around 4:45 p.m. on Ring Road around Crossgates Mall. Officers saw a white Ford Explorer with a stolen license plate on the vehicle. They stopped the vehicle, but when they started to approach, police said the driver, 37-year-old Jonathan Swift, deliberately accelerated toward one of the officers.
The suspect crashed into the vehicle and the car was inoperable, police said. Swift and Aleshia Keener, 38, got out and ran away. They were caught after a brief chase.
Police determined that the vehicle was stolen from the city of Schenectady.
Swift is facing a long list of charges including criminal possession of stolen property, criminal mischief, attempted assault upon a police officer, forgery, resisting arrest and obstruction of governmental administration.
Keener was charged with criminal possession of stolen property and obstruction of governmental administration.
They were arraigned Tuesday in Guilderland Town Court. Swift was sent to Albany County Jail. Keener was released on her own recognizance and is due back in court at a later date.
