Police surround Rensselaer home in false swatting incident
Rensselaer Police surrounded a home on Wednesday for what they thought was a person who was shot his family, but actually was a false "swatting" call.
Officers from multiple police agencies responded to a residence on the 2000 block of 10th Street around 9:45 p.m. for a report of a person who had barricaded himself in his residence after a shooting, Rensselaer Police said.

Officers from multiple police agencies responded to a residence on the 2000 block of 10th Street around 9:45 p.m. for a report of a person who had barricaded himself in his residence after a shooting, Rensselaer Police said.
After interviewing people at the scene, the nature of the call was deemed to be a swatting incident. Someone was playing a video game and the person on the other end of the call falsely reported a shooting, according to police.
Investigators are still trying to determine who made the call.
Police said these false incidents continue to be on the rise and pose a very dangerous threat.
