Police: SUV intentionally driven into Mohawk River

State Police said the SUV that ended up in Lock 12 on Saturday was intentionally driven into the Mohawk River.

It happened on Saturday around 10:10 a.m. in the town of Mohawk. The driver was outside the vehicle and rescued by the Tri-County Swift Water Rescue Team.

The victim was conscious at the time and taken by helicopter to Albany Medical Center for treatment. The driver remains at the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery, according to police. The name is not being released.

The vehicle was carried by the strong current before disappearing under the surface, police said. The search for the SUV is ongoing and there is no timetable for its removal.
