Proper eyewear crucial for solar eclipse
The big solar eclipse is on April 8.
Parts of New York State will be covered in complete darkness during the phenomenon. Albany and the Capital Region will be in near totality.
Experts are urging those who plan to look at the solar eclipse to make sure they have the right glasses.
Make sure you look for glasses that have been inspected and tested– and have the ISO number and logo of 12312-2.
Glasses not up to ISO specifications pose a serious risk for eclipse viewers, according to optometrists.
“You’re increasing your risk of having solar retinopathy,” explained Kelly Bugg, an optometrist. “It can actually almost leave a small little hole in your macula area. Were always worried about cataracts as well.”
While viewing the solar eclipse may be breathtaking, Bugg suggested limiting your viewing time during the eclipse.
