Rensselaer County inmate gets 9 ½ years in prison for attack on corrections officer
A Rensselaer County inmate was sentenced on Tuesday to nearly a decade in prison for an attack on a corrections officer.
Matthew Fluty was in the jail on unrelated charges on Jan. 5 when he attacked an officer. He pleaded guilty on Oct. 3 to first-degree strangulation, according to Rensselaer County District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly.
In addition to the prison term of 9 ½ years, Fluty must serve five years of post-release supervision.
“Violence against law enforcement will not be tolerated by my office. Individuals that engage in this type of behavior will be held accountable” Donnelly said in a statement.
“We appreciate the hard work of the Rensselaer County District Attorney’s Office in sending a strong, clear message that an assault on any of our correction officers will not be tolerated here in Rensselaer County,” said Sheriff Pat Russo in a statement.
