Rensselaer man gets 24 years in prison for fatal shooting
A Rensselaer man was sentenced to 24 years in prison Wednesday for killing a Troy man in 2023.
Jahteek Sanchez had pleaded guilty in may to manslaughter for shooting and killing 39-year-old Alexander Crawford on July 2, 2023 in front of Family Dollar in North Troy, the Rensselaer County District Attorney's Office said.
Police said that Sanchez, then 16, shot Crawford, who was sticking up for his son because he believed he was being bullied.
A Rensselaer man was sentenced to 24 years in prison Wednesday for killing a Troy man in 2023.
Jahteek Sanchez, 17, had pleaded guilty in May to manslaughter for shooting and killing 39-year-old Alexander Crawford on July 2, 2023 in front of Family Dollar in North Troy, the Rensselaer County District Attorney’s Office said.
Sanchez also must serve 5 years of post-release supervision.
Assistant District Attorney Spencer Lane prosecuted the case.
“Mr. Sanchez made a senseless and heinous decision that he takes no responsibility for,” he said in a statement. “He minimized his responsibility and showed no remorse.”
