Repeat felon gets 10 years in prison for violent robbery in downtown Saratoga Springs

A repeat felon was sentenced on Monday to 10 years in prison for punching a man and robbing him on Caroline Street in Saratoga Springs.

Jose A. Colon, 53, had previously pleaded guilty to the incident last May. Police said the victim was sent to Saratoga Hospital for treatment of a concussion and cuts to his face.

Police were able to track down surveillance videos and obtained physical evidence that quickly led to the arrest of Colon the same day as the attack. The victim’s stolen property was returned.

District Attorney Karen Heggen credited the work of investigators and business owners for quick work to solve the case.

“I want to thank both the Saratoga Springs Police Department and the business owners on Caroline Street for their continued cooperation in combatting crime in downtown Saratoga Springs,” Heggen said in a news release.

Both cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Joseph Frandino and District Attorney’s Office Investigator Jack Barney.
