Angelo Maddox Jr. and his Cap City Runners set out to run 159 miles for the 159th Juneteenth, and they accomplished that mission.

Maddox Jr. invited people to join him on the running challenge.

Each mile represented the journey to freedom for African Americans, and how that journey continues today.

Angelo ended his 159 miles at the Schuyler Mansion in Albany, it was the home to Phillip J. Schuyler. In the late 1700s, Schuyler was the largest owner of slaves in Albany.

“This is kind of why we did the 159-mile challenge,” Maddox Jr. said. “To never forget, to learn from our past, to build on our present and to properly, strategically prepare for the future.”
