FIRST ON 13: Man accused of killing Saratoga Springs woman
A Saratoga Springs man is facing a murder charge for allegedly killing a former intimate partner.
Sebastian Mabb, 31, was arraigned in Saratoga Springs City Court Wednesday on a charge of second-degree murder.
Police said that he got into a physical altercation with Brianna Craig inside a residence at 8C2 Vanderbilt Terrace in Saratoga Springs between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Tuesday and killed her, court documents said.
Police received a call at around 6:40 p.m. for a report of a deceased woman at a building at 8 Vanderbilt Terrace. Officers arrived within 4 minutes and found Craig, who was the sole resident.
Investigators conducted interviews and determined Mabb was a person of interest because he had a prior relationship with Craig. At around 8:17 p.m., Mabb was detained at the residence.
Police Chief Tyler McIntosh confirmed that they were former intimate partners but would not elaborate. He said it was an isolated, domestic-related incident.
When asked how long they had been residents of the community, he said they longstanding members of the community but was not sure how long they lived in the area.
Investigators declined to state if Mabb had a criminal history.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Saratoga Springs Police Department at 518-584-1800.
At around 8:17 p.m., Mabb was detained at the residence.
Assistant Public Defender Michael DiPresso entered a not guilty plea.
Saratoga Springs City Court Judge Francine Vero set a date of Friday at 9:45 a.m. for a preliminary hearing. Mabb is being held without bail in Saratoga County Jail.
McIntosh expressed his condolences to the victim.
“I would like to ask everyone to join us in extending our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the victim – such a tragic loss of a young life that no family should have to endure,” he said.
Homicides are rare in Saratoga Springs. There was a 2018 stabbing that resulted in a murder charge and a 2021 fight on Caroline Street in which a man was pushed to the pavement and died. That resulted in a manslaughter conviction.
