Schenectady man admits to killing long-term partner

Schenectady man admits to killing long-term partner in 2023.

A Schenectady man has admitted to killing his long-term partner back in 2023.

Bernard Alexander, 42, pleaded guilty on Thursday to second-degree murder, according to the Schenectady County District Attorney’s Office.

Alexander shot and killed Philomen Henry in an apartment on Crane Street on May 22, 2023. They lived with Henry’s two children. Alexander and Henry had a long-term relationship that was marked by several instances of domestic violence.

Alexander had previously been arrested and in prison for violating an order of protection, according to prosecutors.

After shooting Henry several times, he left the apartment. He fled the state and was later found in August 2023 in Scranton, Pennsylvania living under an assumed name. He was arrested with the help of the U.S. Marshals Service.

Alexander is scheduled to be sentenced on April 28. He faces 20 years to life in prison.
