Schenectady meth lab cleanup comes with little guidance

It turns out there are no regulations in New York state when it comes to cleaning up meth labs.

NewsChannel 13 checked with a meth lab cleaning company, and several New York state departments.

This all comes after Matthew McKenna was arrested last week for allegedly running a meth lab in a unit at the Netherlands Village Apartments on Dorwaldt Boulevard in Schenectady.

After evidence is collected, it’s actually the apartment complex that’s responsible for cleaning it all up, Schenectady Police Investigator Jeff Sauer said.

The apartment complex’s parent company, DHM Properties, is now handling the cleanup, Netherlands Village management said.

Police first discovered the meth lab back in September, but it actually took several months to investigate everything and make the arrest.
