Schenectady Police kill dog that bit officer

A Schenectady Police officer shot and killed a dog that bit another officer.

The incident happened when the department’s Special Operations Squad was preparing to search a residence at 1046 Second Ave. around 6 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 13. A dog in front of the residence bit the officer, and then was shot and killed by another member of the squad.

The dog was taken to a nearby emergency animal hospital and has since died from the injuries.

The injured officer was taken to Albany Medical Center and has been released with stitches to his hand.

The investigation is ongoing, and police did not provide further details.
