The city of Albany kicks off Capital Region Juneteenth celebrations

Juneteenth celebrations are kicking off in the Capital Region this week.

Juneteenth celebrations are kicking off in the Capital Region.

The Alice Moore Black Arts & Cultural Center is hosting an evening of jazz this Friday, June 14, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. It’s also the center’s opening reception. There will be a live band and light refreshments.

Then on Saturday, June 15, the Capital District YMCA’s African Heritage Parade will roll through downtown Albany.

The parade leads into Albany’s annual Juneteenth celebration and festival.

This is the 4th year of Albany’s Freedom Day celebration.

The parade starts at 11 a.m. at Washington Park. People are encouraged to arrive at 10 a.m.
