Sheriff: Woman arrested for holding down child who refused to nap at daycare
QUEENSBURY, N.Y. (WNYT)- An arrest has been made in connection with an incident at a local daycare center.
Helen Oprencak, 72, has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child after she pulled a child, who refused to lie down for nap time, by the hood of their sweatshirt, holding them down until they went to sleep, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office said.
The Sheriff’s Office says it received a complaint on February 26 about potential inappropriate conduct by a staff member at Childtime of Queensbury.
Oprencak was processed and released on her own recognizance. She’s due to appear in Queensbury Town Court at a later date.
This comes as unrelated child abuse cases at two other day care centers are still pending.
Hannah Bunce, of Mechanicville allegedly threw the child at Maple Leaf Day Care into a crib and struck him with an open hand on April 4, 2024, in an apparent case of corporal punishment.
When NewsChannel 13 checked with Halfmoon Town Court and motions are being filed by the defense. No new court date has yet been set. Bunce was fired.
Amy Henninger, of Ballston Spa, is charged with second-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child for an alleged incident on SmartEarly Learning Center in Clifton Park on Jan. 21. She is accused of striking a child, causing bruises and scratches. Henninger is due back in Clifton Park Town Court on April 9 at 1:30 p.m.
Tia M. Sauvie, of Johnsonville, is also charged with endangering the welfare of a child. Investigators said she watched Henninger’s actions and did nothing.
