Sports card store opening in new location in Mechanicville after devastating fire
Bill’s Card Shaq is looking forward to opening up in a new space in Mechanicville, about five months after a devastating fire destroyed their business in Waterford.
The business is set to open on June 1.
Owner Bill Hodges IV told NewsChannel 13’s Dan Levy that he is busy going through tens of thousands of sports cards and memorabilia.
Fire destroyed the business on Broad Street on Dec. 4. A resident on the upper floor died and a little girl on the second floor was badly burned.
Bill Card’s Shaq lost its entire inventory, including a lot of their vintage cards.
Hodges said the family had thought about not starting over.
“My father was thinking about just retiring and calling it quits, and we sat down as a family and basically, we made the decision of ‘Hey, let’s go for another two years and see what happens.’”
They signed a two-year lease on April 2 and started moving stuff into the new location on North Central Avenue on April 22.
They got on social media, eBay and other sites to replace inventory.
