State Police arrest Virginia man for illegally possessing multiple firearms, body armor

A Virginia man is accused of having multiple weapons, high-capacity magazines and body armor.

State Police responded to the Naval Nuclear Laboratory at the Kenneth A. Kesselring Site in West Milton last Saturday for a report of weapons found in a person’s vehicle.

Matthew Sanchez, 28, had multiple weapons, illegal high-capacity magazines, a ballistic vest and controlled substances, police said.

Sanchez was working at the facility as a contractor.

He did not display any weapon or threaten everyone. The weapons were found during a routine security inspection, according to police.

Sanchez was charged with 16 counts of criminal possession of a weapon, two counts of criminal possession of a firearm, two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawful purchase of body armor and criminal possession of a rapid-fire medication device.

He was arraigned in Saratoga Springs City Court and sent to Saratoga County Jail in lieu of bail at $40,000 cash, $80,000 bond or $400,000 partially secured bond.
