Republican State Senator George Borrello introduced new legislation. It would allow for the sale of only wines produced in New York state.
Borrello estimates the move would spur $15 billion in economic impact.
The legislation would also remove the ban on liquor stores selling food, like cheese and crackers.
New York is currently one of around a dozen states to bar grocery stores from selling wine.
