Stefanik’s confirmation to Trump administration set for Tuesday
U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik is set to be confirmed Tuesday for her cabinet position in the Trump administration.
Stefanik is up for the role of ambassador to the United Nations.
She was one of the first people President Donald Trump nominated to be part of his cabinet, after he was elected to a second term in November.
If confirmed, there will be a vacancy in New York’s 21st Congressional District, which represents parts of Fulton, Montgomery, Schoharie, Warren, and Washington counties.
State Sen. Dan Stec in Warren County, Assemblyman Robert Smullen from Johnstown, Assemblyman Chris Tague from Schoharie County, and Democrat Rod Driscoll are all in the running for that now-open seat.
Also running are Republican Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin and Democrat Paula Collins, who unsuccessfully ran against Stefanik for Congress.
