Storms leave thousands without power

Thousands still remain without power

Storms have left thousands without power throughout the capital region.

Thousands were left without power Wednesday as storms brought down trees which led to downed power lines.

This has forced National Grid to have 3,000 workers working around the clock to help bring power back.

National Grid spokesperson Patrick Stella said in Glen Falls a storm brought winds close to 90 mph leading to lots of power outages there.

“It’s just not typical for upstate New York,” said Stella.

Stella said that this storm didn’t create just issues within the Glen Falls area but all across upstate and eastern New York.

“We had about 180,000 customers that were affected by the storm last night. That’s mainly in the Mohawk Valley and mostly here and eastern New York is where we saw the bulk of those,” said Stella.

National Grid customers without power can check how big their outage is by visiting National Grid’s Outage Map on their website.

National Grid said if the “Estimated Restoration Time” says “assessing conditions,” then this means that debris such as trees and downed wires must be cleared before crews can get to their equipment.
