Girl, 13, accused of making threats to Albany school

A 13-year-old girl has been arrested in connection with threats made to an Albany middle school.

Officers responded to Myers Middle School around 8 p.m. Tuesday in connection with a threat that was received via a messaging platform. The message said that bombs would be placed through the school and also threatened a school shooting, police said.

A sweep of the building on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning found nothing.

The investigation identified the girl, who police said made threats through Snapchat.

The student’s name will not be released because of her age. She was charged with making a terrorist threat and aggravated harassment and will be in Albany County Probation at a later date.

The investigation into threats at KIPP Albany Community Charter School and Hackett Middle School is ongoing, according to police.

Rensselaer Police also confirmed they are investigating threats made at the Doane Stuart School.

However, the Doane Stuart School said the threat was made to Nurses Middle College Charter High, which is housed in the Doane Stuart School building.

“The threat was not directed at Doane Stuart itself, but the school acted swiftly to prioritize the safety of students, staff, and families,” the Doane Stuart School said in a statement.

Classes at Doane Stuart and Nurses Middle College Charter were cancelled on Wednesday.

The school said the building was deemed safe by law enforcement after a full sweep was conducted. It also said that there would be an increased police presence on and around the campus when the school reopens Thursday.
