Three arrested as part of Albany County Sheriff’s traffic sweep
Albany County Sheriff’s deputies conducted 70 traffic stops on Wednesday to crack down on fraudulent license plates, stolen vehicles and suspended licenses.
This was part of an effort to target high-crime areas.
The Albany County Sheriff’s Office highlighted three suspects that were arrested as part of the sweep.
Alex F. Rivera, 42, was stopped just after 9:45 p.m. in the area of First Street and Lexington Avenue. Rivera began to fight with sheriff’s deputies, police said, but was quickly arrested. He allegedly had a 9mm semi-automatic handgun with a high-capacity magazine and crack cocaine. Rivera also had a revoked driver’s license. He was charged with three counts of criminal possession of a weapon, two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminally using drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest and aggravated unlicensed operation and traffic violations.
Taquan M. Davis, 25, of Watervliet, was stopped around 4:45 p.m. in the area of Sheridan Avenue and Lexington Avenue. Police said he had 2.2 grams of Ecstasy pills. He was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and traffic violations.
Kenneth M. Tyree, 38, of Poestenkill, was stopped on I-90. He allegedly had over 20 suspensions on 10 different dates. Tyree was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation.
Rivera and Davis were sent to Albany County Jail and were scheduled to be arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court on Thursday, Jan. 16.
Tyree was released on an appearance ticket and is due in court at a later date.
