Titanic submersible victim was from Dutchess County
One of the victims in the submersible that imploded while on a mission to the wreckage of the Titanic was from very close to the Capital Region.
French deep-sea explorer, and Dutchess County resident Paul-Henri Nargeolet was among the five people who died on the submersible operated by OceanGate Expeditions.
He was part of the first expedition in the 1980s that reached the Titanic wreckage.
Four others were killed in the implosion.
Gov. Kathy Hochul released a statement, saying:
“My sympathy is with the families and loved ones of those lost in this tragedy, including Paul-Henri Nargeolet, Dutchess County resident and explorer.”
