Juneteenth is June 19, but people in Troy are celebrating all week.

The events this week include a movie viewing, African drumming, and arts and crafts for the kids.

The big celebration is at Riverfront Park on Wednesday.

Juneteenth will be a day to celebrate and educate, according to Jerry Ford Jr., vice president of Troy NAACP.

However, he also said African Americans haven’t yet reached what he calls “true freedom” and have a long way to go.

Learn about all the work he says still needs to be done by watching the video of Faith King’s story.
