Eight people without a home after fire

The red cross is financially assisting seven adults and one child after a two-family home was destroyed by a fire in Schenectady.

Fire crews in Schenectady say two families were displaced, following an early-morning fire on Fairview Avenue.

At about 1:45 Saturday morning, Schenectady Fire Department responded to 2037 Fairview Avenue for a reported structure fire.

Two families lived in the home.

On arrival, crews encountered heavy fire in the attic.

According to Schenectady’s fire chief, there were six people inside at the time of the fire.

All got out safely.

The American Red Cross is helping the families.

The fire is under investigation.
