Two people go through thin ice in Fulton County
Two people went through thin ice on the Great Sacandaga Lake.
The Fulton County sheriff says two people went through thin ice Sunday morning on the Great Sacandaga lake.
Sheriff Richard Giardino said two people were walking when they went through the ice on the Town of Broadalbin side, where the creek is nearby and the ice is thinner.
One person went into the water up to his neck.
A nearby fisherman got both people out. The sheriff said fortunately, they were out safely, but still very cold from the water.
The sheriff is warning that the Great Sacandaga has inconsistent levels of ice thickness across the entire reservoir-lake, so he says people should stay off the lake until further notice.
“It is very unsafe, even for people on foot,” Sheriff Giardino said.
