Brown launches bid for Saratoga County Sheriff

Saratoga County Undersheriff Jeffrey Brown launches bid to succeed Michael Zurlo as sheriff.

The number two cop in Saratoga County kicked off his campaign today to become the number one.

Undersheriff Jeffrey Brown on Tuesday formally announced his campaign for sheriff.

Brown has been undersheriff for the last four years. A native of Malta and graduate of Shenendehowa, Brown worked his way up through the department, starting as a deputy in 1998.

He now oversees all five divisions in the sheriff’s office and commands more than 300 employees.

“I am running to continue the great work the sheriff’s office has continued. My lifelong connection to Saratoga County, my unblemished career, and my vast leadership experience make me the most qualified person to be your next elected sheriff in Saratoga County,” he said at his campaign kickoff.

Brown is looking to replace Sheriff Michael Zurlo, who is retiring at the end of his term.

At his campaign kickoff today in Clifton Park, Brown was endorsed by two dozen elected leaders, including his current boss.

Brown is facing a primary challenge from Sgt. Ryan Mahan, who is also the union president.

Mahan says it’s time for change.

“I want to bring back community programs, work across party lines, and make the Saratoga County Sheriff’s department more than just a training ground,” he said.
