Union, state enter third day of talks to end unsanctioned prison strikes
The union representing correction officers and the state will be back at the negotiating table on Wednesday afternoon as unsanctioned strikes continue into their tenth day.
The second day of mediation talks with the union and the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision concluded Tuesday night at around 9 p.m., according to Jim Miller, spokesman for the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association.
Miller said there was progress made on several issue, but nothing significant to report at this time. Talks will resume at 1 p.m.
Prison staff are protesting unsafe working conditions and have called for limits on 24-hour shifts, better staffing levels and repeal of rules limiting solitary confinement.
The union also wants pay increases and an incentive hiring bonus, plus mandatory body scans for visitors
