Vermont man accused of robbing North Adams Walmart, slapping employee

A Vermont man is facing charges for allegedly slapping a North Adams Walmart employee as he robbed the store.

Austin Mayhew, of Bennington, is accused of carrying a loaded gun into the store and demanding all the money from a register, NewsChannel 13’s news partners at The Berkshire Eagle reported.

Mayhew, 35, slapped the worker and told her to “hurry up,” investigators said.

He took $5,400, investigators said, and was later caught after he crashed in a stolen pickup truck that allegedly reached speeds of 80 to 100 mph.

Police found cash and a gun in Mayhew’s bag, they said.

He pleaded not guilty on Monday.
