Menands celebrates centennial

The village of Menands celebrated its centennial with a parade and festival.

The village of Menands celebrated a major milestone Saturday.

It was a big centennial celebration that drew a crowd.

After a parade, there was a festival at the farmers market with live music and crafts, plus food, ices, and face-painting.

The great-great grandson of the founder of Menands was there for the festivities.

“He was an immigrant from France and he was a horticulturalist and he built a greenhouse out here in Menands and the train used to stop at the greenhouse and pick up flowers and bring them to Albany, to sell in Albany,” said Louis Menand. “The train stop was named after him and it became a village.”

WNYT anchor Rachel Tiede was the MC of the parade at this big 100th birthday bash.

There were also special proclamations from federal and state leaders.
