Whitehall man faces multiple charges after chase

A Whitehall man is facing multiple charges for allegedly driving away from police who were attempting to stop him.

At about 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday, State Police attempted to stop a vehicle on Broadway in Whitehall for a traffic violation. The driver, later identified as 60-year-old Charles W. Wilke, did not comply and led police on a chase Wilke eventually stopped the vehicle on County Route 12 and fled on foot, according to a news release. Police quickly took him into custody.

Wilke allegedly had controlled substances, drug paraphernalia and an illegal radio device in his possession.  

Wilke was charged with tampering with physical evidence, three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, two counts of criminally using drug paraphernalia, obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest, fleeing a police officer and unlawful possession of radio devices.

Wilke was transported to the State Police station in Granville for processing. He was then taken to Washington County Correctional Facility to await arraignment.
