The Guilderland Public Library asked patrons to bring in plastic bottle caps for an art project at Lynwood Elementary School.
The mural used more than 100 pounds of plastic that would have gone into a landfill.
The mural has been installed in the new student-driven recycling center at the school.
The bottle caps were chosen because they are often not recyclable.
