Hockey game to raise money for man injured in Mayfield crash
Medical bills are piling up for a young man critically injured in a head-on crash in Mayfield last November.
Evan Wieczenski, 23, of Fonda was the victim of a crash on Turkey Farm Road in Mayfield.
The Fonda graduate suffered a brain injury and several broken bones.
He’s spent the last several months in Albany Medical Center and Sunnyview Rehabilitation Center.
Before the crash, Wieczenski had taught himself to skate and joined a hockey team.
Now the hockey community is stepping up to help with his medical costs.
They’ve organized an “Evan Strong” hockey game for Saturday, March 16, at the Schenectady County Rec Facility.
There’s a family skate at 2 p.m., followed by an opening ceremony at 3:15 p.m. and they’ll drop the puck at 3:30 p.m.
Admission is free, but donations are encouraged and will help with Wieczenski’s medical bills.
