The Greater Good: ESYO Playathon, Freihofer’s Run training

ESYO Playathon Fundraiser

The Empire State Youth Orchestra will have a Playathon fundraiser this Saturday, March 25, at Crossgates Mall. You will hear the rumble of percussion ensembles and the uplifting wind orchestra from 10:30 until 5:15. The money raised will fund a substantial portion of ESYO’s operating expenses and musician scholarships.

Freihofer’s Run for Women training

Hundreds of women are gearing up for the annual Freihofer’s Run for Women. The annual training challenge – which prepares athletes for the event – is kicking off. There are multiple options for participants of all levels of running experience. Workouts are led by mentors, so no one is left behind. Registration for the training challenge remains open through April 7. The 45th annual race is on June 3.

BOCES students honored

Twenty Capital Region BOCES career and tech education students earned medals at the Regional SkillsUSA competition last week. The students showed off their expertise in everything from carpentry and baking to diesel engine repair. The seven first place winners now head to the state SkillsUSA competition in Syracuse next month. If they win there, it’s on to nationals.

Hoosac Valley Train Ride

Back by popular demand this weekend, the Hoosac Valley Train Ride will be running their iconic Easter Bunny Hop trains. The trains leave Adams, Massachusetts multiple times on Saturday and Sunday. Each train has a costumed easter bunny greeting kids and giving out colored eggs.
