Drink alcohol in moderation
Summertime is a great time to enjoy a few drinks on your porch.
While it may be tempting to enjoy the weather with a beer or glass of wine, it’s important to be mindful of how much you’re drinking.
Alcohol has been linked to more than 200 health conditions and is tied to an increased risk for several types of cancers.
It can also lead to chronic conditions like liver disease, heart disease and stroke.
Addiction psychiatrist Akhil Anand of the Cleveland Clinic drinking may make you feel good in the moments, but it can lead to long-term mental health issues and depression.
It is important to be mindful of how much you’re drinking. He said moderation is key, and he has a few tips to keep in mind.
“You can alternate between drinking alcohol and water, that helps – making sure that you have a good meal before you’re drinking. Empty-stomach drinking is very hazardous,” he said.
Dr. Anand recommends that men should not have more than two drinks per day and that would should not have more than one drink per day.
