The latest COVID variant, XBB.1.5, makes up more than half the cases identified here in New York state, say health experts.
This new strain is proving to spread more rapidly than other variants currently circulating.
“While at this stage there is not yet clear evidence of significant changes to virulence or severity of disease, the Department reminds all New Yorkers to take precautions to protect themselves and loved ones against a fast-moving strain,” said the New York State Health Department, in a statement.
They urge New Yorkers to stay vigilant – wash your hands, disinfect surfaces, and most importantly, get your bivalent booster shot.
