First response teams can administer blood transfusions
A new law taking effect Dec. 16 expands the ability of first-response teams to administer blood transfusions.
A new law aimed at saving lives in emergency situations went into effect on Monday.
The bill expands the ability of ambulance services and first response teams to store, distribute and administer blood transfusions.
Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara, D – Rotterdam, was a co-sponsor on the bill.
Santabarbara called it a significant advancement in emergency medical care. Previously, only air transport ambulances were authorized to provide blood transfusions.
