Is “Dry January” turning into “High January?”
NewsChannel 13 had a story last week on a recent poll showing the number of Americans who drink alcohol is slowly decreasing, especially among Gen Z. However, the same polls also show a slight increase in people using recreational marijuana.
NewsChannel 13 saw new billboards this month from local pot shops using dry January in their advertising, including one on 787 for a shop called 420 Bliss in Troy.
This month has been very busy with new customers coming in looking for something other than alcohol, they said.
“Business from New Year’s has been really good. We even had to up our staff a little bit,” said Zaniyah Kornegay, with 420 Bliss.
A study by the group Civic Science found in 2023, 21% of those who participated in “Dry January” used marijuana instead of alcohol.
