Albany man, 18, charged in 2023 homicide

An 18-year-old man has been charged in the murder of Albany man last year. Eric Chapman Jr. was arraigned in Albany County Court on Monday morning in the killing of 18-year-old Javone Sims Jr. Chapman allegedly shot Sims in the backyard of a Third Street residence on June 22, 2023. Chapman allegedly had an illegal, loaded firearm. He was sent to Albany County Jail. He is due back in court on Aug. 2.

Eric Chapman Jr. was arraigned in Albany County Court on Monday morning in the killing of 18-year-old Javone Sims Jr.

Chapman allegedly shot Sims in the backyard of a Third Street residence on June 22, 2023. Chapman allegedly had an illegal, loaded firearm.

He was sent to Albany County Jail. He is due back in court on Aug. 2. 

Chapman was arrested last week in the area of Clinton Avenue and Quail Street for allegedly carrying a loaded gun. Police said he is also facing charges in connection with a robbery on May 31 in the 100 block of Central Avenue.

Chapmanā€™s criminal activity dates back to age 12, according to the Times Union, when he was arrested for allegedly displaying a handgun at a local mall. At 15 years old, he fired a gun in a mall. His cases were handled in Family Court.
