Inmate at Auburn Correctional Facility dies

Jonathan Grant was pronounced dead at 8:30 Saturday morning.

The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) said an inmate has died at Auburn Correctional Facility in Cayuga County.

Jonathan Grant was 61 years old and was pronounced dead at approximately 8:32 a.m. Saturday.

DOCCS said prison staff performed CPR and administered Narcan to try to save his life.

Grant was serving a sentence of 34-40 years after being convicted of rape and burglary.

DOCCS said the cause of his death is under investigation and that all inmate deaths are reviewed by the State Commission of Correction.

The death comes as correction officers at more than 20 New York State prisons, including Auburn, continue to strike.
