Arrests made in Gloversville explosions

Gloversville Police arrest two after detonation of explosive devices.

GLOVERSVILLE, N.Y. (WNYT)- Austin D. Kellogg, 27, and Stephen Politsch, 31, both of Gloversville were arrested by Gloversville Police in connection with two explosions that happened around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 17 in the area of Helwig Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues.

Evidence was collected at the site of the explosions. Multiple law enforcement agencies also searched the neighborhood for additional evidence. The investigation lead Gloversville Police to arrest Kellogg and Politsch.

Kellogg was arrested Thursday, April 18 and charged with:

  • First degree arson

Politsch was arrested Friday, April 19 and charged with:

  • Two counts first degree arson
  • Second degree conspiracy

Kellogg was arraigned in Gloversville Town Court is being held at the Fulton County Jail without bail. Politsch is also being held at Fulton County Jail awaiting arraignment.

Gloversville Police had sent out an initial press release Wednesday afternoon on the explosions and said they did not have plans to release new information on Friday. However, WNYT learned of the arrest shortly after 6 p.m. Friday.

Police said there is no ongoing threat to the public and they are continuing to investigate the incident.
