With the new year comes a renewed push for free healthy meals in schools. We’ve been following this campaign for several months now, since federal waivers that provided free school meals expired in June.

The state does have a program that provides free breakfast and lunch to students – but it is based on eligibility.

Advocates are calling on the New York State Legislature and Hochul to fully fund healthy meals for all New York kids in this year’s state budget.
